UK GOSPEL music lovers enjoyed a special treat last weekend when former Destiny Child’s member Michelle Williams sang at Ruach City Church’s first Super Sunday service of 2016 and made a guest appearance at Guvna B’s sell-out gig at the O2 Academy in Islington, north London.
Michelle had a great time at Ruach and tweeted: "London: Tonight was one of the best experiences of my life!!!
She recalled: “When I did When Jesus Says Yes, everybody that follows me from Africa let me know that it was an African song. “I was like ‘no’, the producer Harmony Samuel, heard the song all the time growing up and said ‘Michelle there’s a song we used to do called When Jesus Says Yes’. And so I had to do the song.” Another key reason for the song’s success is that Michelle’s ‘sisters’ from Destiny’s Child - Beyonce and Kelly Rowland - are featured on it.
In an exclusive interview she told Soul Stirrings: “When I am in church I will say to people, ‘hey I’m just here to fellowship’.
I don’t want it to turn into an autograph session unless I’ve sung, and I’ve got products outside, you know what I mean.
Like many African American artists, Michelle honed her vocals in church.
She first met Bishop Francis when he preached at her home church in the US.
Michelle shared how she loved her time at Ruach, enjoying the worship, the preaching and the fact that members respected her privacy by not approaching her to take photos.
