Speed dating information

Faculty are often too busy to learn about new resources that could make them more efficient.Community Partnership Programs, along with a handful of faculty and research specialists, conduct a form of “speed dating for technology” for the faculty. So razors made from 1930-49 can be difficult to date precisely. However, blades made in those years were stamped with a date code: A for 1930, B for 1931, etc., plus 1-4 for the year quarter. In 1950 this system was expanded to include razors, too (see below). An event aimed at enhancing IT literacy and innovation among UCLA Faculty, through tech speed-dating, faculty are introduced to productivity tools in 10-minute intervals that will help save them hours in their teaching and research.Volunteers will have 10 minutes to explain what a particular productivity tool can do, give a brief demo, and show how to get started. If a vintage razor is found with its original blades, the blade codes can be used to establish a rough date for the razor.

In this format, IT professionals run a series of 10-minute introduction /demonstration sessions on the most clever and functional, free and site-licensed tools (such as Box, Skype, Mind Manager, and Doodle).

In a few minutes, and on their own “turf”, faculty can drop in and see what might be most useful to them.
